Okay here is what I want to know:  When you buy a high thread count sheet what do you expect from it?  I just bought a 1000 thread count and I expected them to be ultra soft but I am finding sort of the opposite.  I have been washing them over and over just to wear them out a little bit.  Is that to be expected?

Hi Amanda!  I bought 1000 thread count sheets a few years ago and was disappointed as well because they seemed so stiff and not the soft, cozy sheets I expected.  I tried washing and drying multiple times too but it didn't seem to help.

What did help though was just using them. I think the act of sleeping on them and tossing and turning in bed is what makes them softer. Sort of like when fabric manufacturers "comb" the fabric mulitple times. So yeah, I was disappointed at first but after a while they got really soft and awesome. I don't remember how long it took though and there are still parts of the sheets that are not so soft (like the part that gets tucked under the mattresss and the corners of the fitted sheets).
