Well we restocked the tank this weekend...what I did learn is that you can return fish if they have died but you have to bring the dead fish back for proof (gross). We purchased 3 more and then also bought a colored test strip to see how the tank was doing. I can't remember the name but I will post it when I am home. Depending on the color of the strips told us how well the tank was doing and if it needed medicine. So far so good with the new fish!

I have owned many fish over the years and have never been able to figure out how to mend an ill fish back to good health. I just made sure not to purchase the expensive fish, because more than likely they weren't going to be around for years. I tried to make sure that the fish I bought could be put together in the same tank (some fish eat each other), kept the tank clean, water at the right temperature, and didn't over feed them (at the beginning I killed a lot of fish this way. oops!). Sorry I couldn't directly answer your question for you.

As much is I would love to join the dog train, I can't right now so instead have bought some fish. The tank is probably around 17 gallons. The most fish I have had in there are 6. Two just died and I am wondering if anyone knows when a fish starts to look sick is there anything you can do to help . I could tell both of them were not doing well from the start and now feel bad they are gone. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks for the advice, Larrythepug! Our local vet seems to think my golden is allergic to wheat. I have never heard of oatmeal & eggs as a remedy for pet allergies, but I'm willing to give anything a try! Thanks. :)

We tried out a few different foods to see which one they liked best. All stuff from our local pet store. I've never tried any of the prescription foods. They seem to like what we feed them and are healthy so I guess we'll stick with that for now.

My dog had allergies at one time. I had read in a book about the healing benefits of oatmeal and eggs for dogs with allergies. I have been giving my dog oatmeal once a week and an egg once a week over his food. It has been 3 years and no allergies outbreaks! Maybe give this a try. I must say that he likes scrambled the most!

My dog is allergic to everything! No kidding, she breaks out in hives! The only dog food I've found for her so far is Science Diet prescription dog food. She prefers the salmon&potato. I would love to find an all natural dog food that won't break my pup out and is cheaper. Hill's Science Diet is about $30 for a 7lb. bag.

I have compared the high end dog food that the vets sell to the ingredients in store stocked food. Often times there is very little if any comparison. I have noticed that the more "specialty" I have gotten the worse the "air" becomes, if you get my drift.

Do you feed your pets food from the grocery store or food from a pet store or your vet? What makes the more expensive stuff better? I always just go w/ recommendations from my vet. Thankfully, they are usually available outside of the vet's office. Not sure my puppy would want to have anything to do w/ the vet once he leaves the place!
