5 Ways to Stay Organized Every Day

How to Stay OrganizedFrom the moment you awake until the time your head hits the pillow, it is go, go, go.  I don't know anyone who feels like there are enough hours in the day.  We have to prioritize and things inevitably get pushed to the wayside.  In the midst of trying to meet the needs of children, a spouse and a boss, it's hard to stay organized.

So, what happens when you feel unorganized?  You get stressed, anxious, tired and perhaps a bit short fused.  It doesn't have to always be that way.  In fact, these five easy and quick tasks, if done every day, will go a long way in helping you get a handle on the chaos in your life.

1.  Respond or Act Immediately to Email:  You don't need to check your personal email more than once or twice a day, but when you do, it's important to respond right away.  This eliminates the need to re-open and re-evaluate the email at a later date.

If someone is looking for a response and you can easily reply immediately, do so.  Follow that up with either filling the email or deleting it altogether.

This also holds true for emails that include important dates.  Go to your calendar right away and record the event.

Any email that you consider to be junk should be deleted not allowed to clog up your in-box.

2.  Sort your mail every day:  You don't have to respond to the mail immediately, but don't allow it to collect in a huge pile.  Instead, separate your daily mail into three piles: to be paid, to be read (including magazines and letters) and to be recycled.  Do get that junk mail into your recycling bin every day.

3.  Empty the dishwasher or wash dishes every day:  Allowing your dirty pots, pans and dishes to pile up in the sink every day leaves you will a time consuming job at a later date.  It's better to just spend 5 - 10 minutes every day making sure all of your dirty dishes are picked up and washed or placed in the dishwasher.

4.  Laundry:  Most of us don't have the time to run a load of laundry every day.  What we can do though is make sure that everyone picks up their dirty clothes each night and places them in a hamper.  This will remove clutter from your bedroom floors and eliminate those huge piles of clothes draped over the bedroom chair.

5.  Tidy:  Even if you don't have the time to completely tidy up your house each evening, have every family put away five things before bed.  Whether it's a pair of shoes, the scissors, a bag of chips or a week's worth of newspapers, it doesn't matter.  The idea is that if everyone puts five items back into their proper place, you reduce the amount of clutter and eliminate the possibility of your clutter becoming out of control.

These five practices will immediately reduce the amount of stress that you feel.  You're house will be less cluttered, bills won't pile up, you will be able to find things more easily and you will no longer dread emptying your email in-box. In short, you will feel more like yourself and less like a crazed mom!
