Be prepared to battle summer boredom and get everyone up and moving with a summer sidewalk fun kit.
With a variety of supplies and ideas for sidewalk games, the kids and adults may find a creative outlet as well as exercise while enjoying a summer day on the sidewalk.
These sidewalk games can be adapted for a variety of ages and skill levels, and the best part is that clean-up is a snap!
Sidewalk Chalk Games
With a bucket of colorful sidewalk chalk or sidewalk paint, my school-age nieces enjoy drawing their favorite princesses as they whirl and twirl while humming a tune from the latest Disney movie.
Their little sister has fun trying to draw shapes or outlining a shadow with a little help. If the kids need a clean slate, grab a garden hose or watering can , or wait for a rain to wash away the artwork to make room for new creations.
Outdoor Exercise on the Sidewalk
Hopscotch can give a family the chance to laugh while practicing coordination, balance, and getting more exercise outside. Mark off a few single and double squares and hop through from one side to the other.
For variety, try snail hopscotch, in which the playing area is in a spiral shape. Those who complete the snail maze in and out can mark their initials in that box, in which they can rest with both feet but others must jump over that area.
The whole family can try a few moves together with some music and ideas from an exercise video, or have fun stopping the music for a game of freeze play, in which anyone moving when the music stops is out.
Sidewalk Water Fun
Kids are naturally drawn to water, so get a variety of paint brushes and bucket, and let them paint a picture before the sun evaporates their work of art. This can also lead to a fun twist on games such as Pictionary.
Draw a line down the sidewalk; be prepared with a few water guns, and the crowd can try their skills at hitting targets on the sidewalk, on a nearby wall, or even those moving targets like friends and family.
Sidewalk Sports
Grab some safety equipment, ensure that the area is free of hazards, and prepare to move a bit with a few sidewalk sports, such as riding on:
